Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Thanks... I just 'modded' my DCM-370 and returned an Azur 540C v2

Thanks for the responses. I don't have all the time to convert my many CD's to put in a server type environment, so I wanted to get a better CDP. I just bought a 'Cambridge Audio AZUR 540C v2' CD player with the Wolfson 96kHz/24-bit DAC, thinking it would surely trounce the 5 year old Denon DCM-370. In the meantime, yesterday someone e-mails me information about a simple mod I can do for the 370, which I performed (disconnecting the cable going to the headphone jack, which introduces distortion even to the analog output jacks). The results were pleasantly surprising... the 370 sounded MUCH better with the mod! I compared the now modded 370 to the AZUR 540C, and DID NOT HEAR ANY DIFFERENCE!!!!! So, for now, i'm keeping the modded 370 since I don't know if I can do better soundwise in my tight price range. High-end (or at least, 'higher end') audio on a budget is always challenging, but fun!
