Do you mean "acts as an amp only when I" LISTEN TO MUSIC? Otherwise, I can't make sense of your post. I wonder how much benefit you will get adding the AR preamp. The Sim is a pretty good unit I think. What about spending the money instead on new main speakers (although you don't say what those currently are). And what about your cd player? Good luck!
