Apple Lossless does something to the inflections in the music. No, it doesn't. Apple Lossless is verifiable lossless. We should not cloud the issue of algorithmic accuracy with subjective comments about whether one can or cannot hear differences when played back. The poster was concerned that ripping to Apple Lossless meant that he had not captured the information from his CD correctly. Rest assured that he has relative to what he'd get when ripping directly to AIFF. Whether the software that plays back the compressed music does so with an audible loss of fidelity is an issue with the software/platform/listener only, and not the format. It's important to be clear about the difference and to state things correctly.
