Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

TT's and CDP's...

Will likely be with us for a very long time and I don't doubt for a minute that there are many, many high-end players that smoke my Red Wine Audio modified Squeezebox2. But I sold a $3k player after my RWA SB2 settled in. Does it sound better? No. The SB2 is not as refined, doesn't have the gracefull extended top end, and doesn't image as well either, but it is very close for 1/4 the price.

Yet after nearly three years with Squeezeboxes and a three month session with a stock Transporter, I strongly believe that the differences are rapidly becoming ones of taste over quality. My modded unit does sound very good and for me anyway, the incredible convenience allows so much more music to be heard, that it overcomes my desire to fiddle with hard media.

Once problems of connectivity are banished to the techno trash heap for good and general methods of delivery and storage are settled upon, it seems clear to me that high-end CDPs will become the next TTs. Emerging and established high-end audio mfgrs will embrace the technology pushing it to the limits of it capability. Who knows, with enough bandwidth, we may be headed for hi-rez satellite delivery...

Will that happen before the polar caps melt and we all drown or die of starvation? I dunno. I just be happy to get my wireless router to work 100% of the time! ;p

My stock portfolio, .02 pennies
