I bought this DVD/CD/SACD player/receiver second hand (eBay) about a year ago. Initially everything was fine. I still have flawless playback of DVDs and SACDs, but regular CD playback has developed a glitch where the sound will periodically skip ahead or back a second or two. Sometimes there is a fraction of a second of silence and sometimes not. At first it happened about every 10-15 minutes, now more often, about every 3-5 minutes.I am old enough to remember how a vinyl record sounded when some trash in a groove would throw the needle out of the groove. It is almost like this except there is not a loud pop (transient) with the CD version like I remember from playing LPs.
Sony ES components have a 5 year warranty, but I have been told by others not to expect Sony to honor this on an eBay purchase. I have tried using a basic Radio Shack CD laser cleaner and noticed no improvement. Perhaps some error correction buffer is overflowing at times. I enjoy the sound and convenience of this unit, and would pay up to $100 for repair.
