I use an Ayre CX 7 player and the top panel is nothing special and can vibrate. I now have a granite place mat on top with some none slip rubber mesh underneath. I'm not sure what made the difference, the extra mass or reduction in vibration, but it sounds much better.
Like Al suggested... even a bag full of sand or something similar will let you know.Have fun,
