If you go with the DAC1 you might want to consider a CTD1 (around $800) by Classe. This is a very musical combo which I have owned and the service at Classe is first rate. The Sony DVP-S7700 can be had for dirt cheap (< $200) and offers a filter setting. My all time favorite is the Theta Data Universal II. (around $400) This is still my reference transport. Big, clunky and slow but smoked my Sony 777ES on Redbook. Keep in mind that repairs on older transports may not be possible because of parts.
