I'm talking about SSRC not oversampling....

The point is that you don't have to filter both as a part of upsampling and then again as a part of downsampling. One filter in the middle at the lowest of the two Nyquist freqs is sufficient.

You save boatloads of work by simply zero stuffing, then filtering then simple decimation. I'm not trying to minimize the work or the details of implementing a good filter, but you only need one and (if your numerator is larger than your denominator) you are at a higher sample rate where the filtering is easier.

You used the word "oversampling" not me. I try to avoid words taken over by marketing, etc. I was talking about SSRC which is a general method for changing the sample rate by a fixed integer ratio. It isn't oversampling, undersampling, etc. it is synchronous sample rate conversion and I outlined it at the conceptual level (i.e. the block diagram you'd see in a signal processing text book.)
