Fish, sorry about not responding...I have this pinched nerve that makes left hand movements a chore...back to your questions:Quote:
"...it has a sort of clicking triplet like noise that I can hear from the listening position. It dosen't sound like motor noise at all, and continues when I stop a cd. I really wasn't expecting much, and was wondering if these units are DEAD quiet or not."
You could have an issue with defining a common ground in the system. As you mentioned that you have the hi-rez option, I assume that you have the dack 2.0 which has the analog ground and digital ground separated. Take a look at Chris Own's post on this issue. The dack has an onboard jumper (JP1) to also workaround this issue.
Can you check if this clicking is coming from your speakers by unconnecting them?Quote:
" Have you attempted to use any other type of external damping techniques like cut superballs or the like?... Sooner or later, I'm going to get super frustrated with this budget crap and just get a damn CEC
Besides the rollerballs, I've tried the innertube thing without much success(???). The CEC with the dAck is an amazing combination that I've heard by bringing the DAC into the dealer's showroom...you should try it, sometime. You should also try the analog outs of the 3990 to see if the clicks dissapear...if so, it has something to do with the SPDIF.PeAK
