Re: Digital EQ and analog system(Behringer)

I have the Behringer unit and, decades ago, owned these Dynaco products.

The Behringer has balanced inputs, either with XLR connectors or phone plugs (common in pro equipment). For a very modest outlay -- from pro sound sources -- you can buy an interconnect that has RCAs on one end and a phone plug on the other, that is wired correctly. I bought two sets for my Behringer (4 ICs total), which I use between my integrated amp (pre outs) and subwoofer (line in). For more money, I'm sure one of the audiophile market cable companies will custom build you a cable with an XLR at one end and an RCA at the other. This will work fine; the grounded shield of the cable will be "telescoped" from the Bheringer unit. Just make sure you get one pair with "female" XLRs and another pair with "male" XLRs, since different connectors are used for inputs than for outputs.

In your case, you're going to have to use the Behringer unit between the output of your PAS-3X and your Mark 3 monoblocs. The question you'll have to answer -- and can only answer after hearing -- is whether the sound improvements from the equalization (mostly in the bass) outweigh any detriments resulting from the conversion of your analog signal to digital and back again.

In my system, running the entire signal through the Behringer unit seemed to degrade it a bit and, the only needed equalization was in the bass, to compensate for the room resonances that are always present. I would not attempt to use an equalizer to extend the bass response of the speaker; it's likely to overdrive either the speaker, the amp or both. Rather, the principal benefit seems to be to use the equalizer to level out the 6 or more dB bass boost that every room has somewhere between 40 and 50 Hz.
