I also use a Plextor writer (external SCSI) and let it choose the speed. If you have VariRec checked, turn it off.Are you using Exact Audio Copy (EAC) in secure mode to copy to your hard drive or USB memory and using that as the source for your writer? If not, that's your focus - not the burner or your media.
