Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Second Lummy, and Apogee

I'd like to second what Luminator said about AC power and isolation from vibration. Dealing with these two things has helped every CD player I've ever owned, and helped a lot, whether the CDP cost $3K or $4C. At present my digital sources have isolation transformers, which have been very effective and inexpensive.

If you do decide to go for a DAC, I have been enjoying an Apogee DA-1000E-20 for three years now. There's a review of it on this site. A new Apogee Mini-DAC might also be a possibility. The Apogees are pro gear, little-known in home audio, very well-engineered and well-built.

One more interesting thing I've learnt concerns the length of the cable connecting the transport to the DAC. Music is much less confused if this cable is 1.5 metres long.
