The Heart is long out of production AFAIK, good look finding one. I'm an AH! owner and am continually impressed. The Eastern Electric looks interesting but is a bit more money and sports a rather mediocre DAC, but alas implementation is everything. I personally would prefer the AH! with its purist Phillips DAC or the very well implemented upsampled DAC.

To your actual question, that comes down to the tubes you role in my experience. I am currently listening to JJTesla, which are a bit grainy but have a lot of 'slam'. The previous Siemens 7308's were smoother, more laid back but with a clean sparkly top end. I will end up back with those after I try the EH tubes I have in the wings.

If I were starting now I would mate a Squeezebox with a tubed DAC. In fact that is where I will be soon: Squeezebox already running, CD collection being ripped to FLAC as we speak, and tube DAC tbd.
