Re: The Oppo 970 sounds considerably more impressive than my Marantz CD67SE

I have had the Oppo 970 for about a week. It was bright the first two days, and then mellowed out the third. On the fourth day, I replaced the cheap power connector with a gold-plated IEC cord. It was a simple 30-minute metal surgery job. I put a nice PS Audio power cord on, and this machine just amazes me through its digital coax output. I've been so entranced by the deep and wide soundstage, detail and natural sounding timbers, voices, and effects in every music style, I haven't even bothered to listen to SACD.

The bass is not light. It is punchy and warm down to about 35Hz and then rolls off. I have a subwoofer but the Oppo doesn't govern the deep bass. I had a modified Marantz CD63SE and a Pioneer DV-578A prior to the Oppo and there is no comparison. Those players had nice refined sound that was not as detailed, warm, and musical as this player. Total cost was $150 plus an $8 Furutech IEC. Best audio deal I have ever seen, and the video picture is great too.

The first few days I didn't know what all the fuss was all about. After a week's warm-up and a new power connector, I'm happy to be a believer.
