Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

I use a sleazy battery jump-starter from wally world . . .

It was $39 and has a 7 amp/hour battery and charger built into the case. I rarely listen more than five or six hours and it could go much longer. SLA's love to be charged so I just plug it in when I finish. Initially I ran two Sonic Impacts simultaneously (bi-wiring) and could still play 4 to 6 hours with out batting an eye. I believe a boutique audio guy used to get around 24 hours between charges running a singe SI. (Btw, the jump starter is about two years old and going strong.)

For the money, using a jump started is a lot less hassle than going "separates".

Oh yes, I had a Lite Dac AH which lasted about 9 months before I lost a channel. It sounded better than I expected and with a few mods I'm sure it would be very transparent. The caveat is how long will it last? If you are buying Chinese it's best to buy from a USA dealer. Of course, the AH was a throw away at $135. The DIAB at $59 is a super tosser if something happens.

Grits: "Rewarding, very, very, VERY REWARDING!"
