This was a year ago so bare with me.My starmate replay is placed on the dashboard about two foot from the radio.The car antenna is about five feet away on the rear roof.To answer your question I really don't know if the older version would remedy the problem.I mean you could give the older starmate replay a try but I have no way of knowing with the new FCC guidlines in place.It hasn't affected my starmate replay in any way.
