Denon reads a copy but not the original...

I just received a new CD of CSNY, 4 Way Street as a Christmas gift. My heavily used vinyl copy is not in the best shape, and I've always wanted it in digital format, so I was really happy about the gift.
My Denon DVD-3910 is unable to read the first disc, yet other players I own are able to read the same disc without any problems. I decided to make a copy of the disc and see if it could be read by the Denon. Sure enough, it reads the copy just fine, but I'm perplexed why this would be the case. The original looks flawless. I have nearly 2000 CD's and this is the first one that absolutely cannot be read (that I'm aware of). I appreciate any insights.
