The LED is there as part of the HDCD spec and so I'd speculate that it's failure to light may well indicate a failure with the HDCD processing, although it's also possible that the LED light may be faulty; open the chassis and see if it's obviously loose or damaged.I've owned the Arcam 8SE in the past and the most noticeable indication that an HDCD track was being played was the increase in output/volume, so (again speculating) if you play a CD which is HDCD encoded and the volume does not increase over non-HDCD encoded discs, it's possibly the case that HDCD playback is being compromised, but a 'blown' or badly connected LED is the most simple explanation and so the most likely.
