Questions about DAC connections

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Hi,
I might get an Electrocompaniet EDC1 DAC
I would like to connect to it:
- Sony SCD-XA777ES SACD player (for CD playback only of course, it has an optical and a coaxial digital output)
- Sony CDP-X777ES CD player (optical and coax output)
- Philips DVD963SA DVD player (optical and coax output)
- PC with Terratec 6fire DMX 96/24 soundcard (optical output)
The ECD1 has 4 digital inputs (2 coax, 1 digital, 1 XLR)
Questions:
1) The Philips DVD player is placed 5m (16 ft) from the DAC. Is an optical or coax connection possible, and which is better and more cost effective?
2) Is it possible to play 96/24 DVD signals through a cable of that lenght?
3) Is there someting special to bear in mind for the PC connection?
4) is it possible to make use of the ECD1 digital XLR connection in my configuration? Is there a digital coax-XLR adapter?
