The blanks have nothing to do with it

The burner's firmware determines the speeds it will support. Secondly, there is NO advantage to burning at 1x. In fact, most burners will make superior copies at 8-24x - ask the engineers who designed 'em. The speed rating on the blanks (48x, 52x, etc.) is the maximum speed they will support. Most newer burners will NOT burn at 1x - or even 2x or 4x. I typically use the middle of the pack, usually 16x nowadays.

Stop stressing over this non-issue and just get on with your burning...
