Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Use of "Step-Up" converter. Does it affect performance?

I am hoping one of you might be able to answer this question. I am thinking of checking out the European “Special Edition” version of the Marantz CD5001. It’s tweaked, in house, by Marantz, but for some odd reason, not available in the U.S. Mainly, I'm just curious--part of the insanity of his hobby.

So…obviously, if I buy it….I’ll need a “Step-Up” converter to be able to use a 230V player. I found a nice little company in Natick, Ma that makes these suckers for about $60, for the 100W version. The 100W converter, he says, is very quiet.

However, my question is a bit different...

Question: How will a step-up converter affect sound (other than a potention for minor hum from the converter). Anyone have experience with this kind of thing?

Thanks,

Ted
