Over the past year or so i compared several players against my old Marantz SA-8260, including units from $1500 - $3000. I was surprised that I could not discern a meaningful improvement between them (RB or SACD, respectively)and almost gave up. Then i tried a Marantz Sa-11S1 - lo and behold I heard a very significant improvement that did not require an A/B comparison. Bass, tonality and image improvements were clear regardless of the CD/SACD. My opinion now is that if you cannot discern meaningful differences between your current player and another after a few days of listening to the new player - keep looking/listening and never assume higher priced units should or will sound better than what you have.
