I'm looking for a CD player (no need for the fancy new formats). It will be the signal source for my low-powered tube (300B) and high efficiency speaker (Oris/Lowther) setup. I'm willing to spend up to $1000, but hope I can find something in the $500 range. I prefer lively over smooth, and I enjoy sound with 'realism', 3D, soundstage, or however you say it. I'd like a low noise-floor, due to the tube/hi-eff speaker setup. It needs to have an output-level knob, which will be used as my volume knob (no pre-amp in my system!). Styling-wise, I like black, and bright-blue LEDs. I'd like it to feel substantial, not flimsy, and the unit itself should be quiet. I don't mind lightly used equitment as long as it's from a manufacturer with a good reputation. I can solder in a few mods if absolutely required, but would prefer out-of-the-box operation. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance... /jd
