I have had both the JD-100 and the 308. The Cary is substantially better than the Jolida. the Cary uses better processors than the Jolida and Cary does an excellent job tuning the unit. The chassis on both units are equally good and they both use the same transport. Jolida's remote is nicer. The Cary has upsampling which helps on older cd's and marginally recorded material. Both have excellent bass but Cary's is tighter, deeper, and more defined. The Cary has a very believable soundstage and presentation. The Cary 308 sounded almost as good as their higher end 302/300 unit on SS output.
The Cary has a very good variable pre output for direct hookup to a poweramp. Both are good but I felt the Cary is more musical and human sounding. I felt as if the musicians are in the room.
I suspect that Cary discontinued it becase it is so good that it challenged their more expensive units, coupled with the fact that the Philips transport is now discontinued in favor for dvd drives. All Cary's new units have slow reading dvd drives.
Incidentally, I thought the SS version more appealing that the tube version.
I wrote a review at Audioreview.com shortly after I got it. I since sold it to upgrade. I haven't found a unit as good for the price so I am using my dvd player for now. I would buy another but I never buy the same piece twice so I am looking into a used Cary 306/200.
Hope this helps.
Mike
