Re: Sell the Marantz SA11

Thanks for your replies.

Indeed I have been thinking about selling it.

But sometimes I just feel that it is an incredibly nice looking and high-spec machine. The sound is very nice in some areas but also something is not right. If mods can make it musical then I would do the mods. The issue is that I don't know if mods work or not. Obviously I can't depend on the answers given by the mod sites. Anybody heard of a mod SA11 would like to comment? I can do the mods myself relatively inexpensively but have not done so because it will invalidate the warranty therefore I may not be able to sell it at a good price again.

The purpose of buying this machine was also for SACD and I ordered the machine and 90 SACDs at the same time. If I get rid of the machine then I can only play the red-book layer of those SACDs. Still I don't regret buying those SACDs. 50 of them are RCA Living Stereo series and their CD layer sounds terrific, better than the previous 20bit remaster. I found the CD layer sounds nearly as good as the SACD layer for the vast majority of the discs.

From the descriptions of the mods offered, I understand that the SA11 does not really use the best parts in the analogue output. I expect some improvements can be made. However, I don't know if the improvements can change the midrange / lower treble dominance of the machine.

Best regards,
Bill
