Re: Confused over digital interconnects

you don't need a 75ohm cable ....a lot depends on the reciecer chip and what the designers decided will be the impedance the reciever sees.

a quick look inside will tell you or if its, rca, bnc or xlr connection each has its own charatoristic impeadance eg xlr 110 ohms.

I've found on short lengths [less than 1m] you can get away with a simple twisted pair .....but if you run long distances the creation of reflections from mismatched impedances will have an appreciable effect.

you can use a pulse transformer ...as many top units already do this.

My prefference is an unshielded tightly twisted pair of solid core silver [diy build] which I often buffer to 75ohms.

If you use rca socket your on a hiding to nothing as nobody make a true 75ohm connector....those that try, once you've attached a cable to it things are all over the place again.

so what am I saying ......its a suck it and see. But a simple diy cable can save you a load of dosh.
