Noisy transports

71.88.109.62

I've commented on this issue from time to time in various posts, but am just curious as to how much of a "problem" this really is, especially with newer players - either dedicated transports, redbook CDPs, universal players, even DVD players. How do the very expensive high-end machines compare with lower cost machines and even mass market? My past experience has been that the older and now discontinued dedicated Philips CD transports (e.g. CDM12, etc) were very quiet, whereas most current machines using CD-ROM drives, DVD drives, etc. seem to be more prone to noises -- clicking, whiring, ticks, etc. Which transports (or specific machines) are now considered to be the quietest?
