My experience in listening to Audio Note and owning non-os DACS is that they are smoother, perhaps a little darker, and definitely more analog sounding than their up/oversampling counter parts. That being said everything is system dependent so the best thing to do isn listen for yourself. Audio Note in general is an excellent non-os DAC, but I found the 2.1x to be substantially more njoyable than the Level 1 offering.
