Re: DAC question

The DAC can't handle the DD or DTS bitstream. If you desire to listen to movies through the DAC, simply search the audio output menu of the DVD player and set it to output "PCM" data. Of course, the receiver needs the DD and DTS bitstreams to produce the best results with those codecs, and the DAC will produce only a stereo signal with a PCM source, so you probably don't want to make the change. No damage will result from feeding the DAC an incompatible data stream, as all that results is the audible noise you have descibed. Good luck.
