At minimum, I'd suggest a .75m single run of AN-S, the new entry-level silver IC, which would cost $85. How much farther you take it depends on what the other components are.
Yes, Audio Note's 12AU7 and 6111WA-based DAC's want a minimum of 30k input impedance in the preamp input they feed. With the 6922-based DACs that sinks to 10k, and the transformer-coupled DACs will drive any load you come up with. Thus, with the current DAC line-up there really isn't anything to worry about.
