Re: Cary 303/300 vs 306/200

I was hopeful, insofar as my favorite dealer is raving about the new 300, that Cary had finally gotten the cdp *right*. This would punctuate my demo experiences, which have shown me that each of the previous Carys had unique sonic character, each of which seemed just artificial enough, and different enough from each other, to leave me wondering what the recording actually sounded like.

I DO realize that every component represents someone's take on what the music should be, but the Cary's take(s) seem to be less than tightly focused on the bullseye. I found that my ModWright Rega Planet was able to play in this "big league" of Cary players without embarassment. I had hoped that one of the Cary units would be a revelation, as I realize that the modded-Planet is not a true top-tier unit, but I am still waiting for that too happen. When I pop a cd into a 3k+ player and experience top-end glare, that says something about what these guys are and are NOT capable of, IMHO.
