No, the back cover is not sealed against opening, although it looks and feels as if it would be more difficult to do so, as the case just isn't as flimsy as the standard CD case. More problematic is that the case is simply configured differently--with the rounded corners and notched hinge area (where the insert is folded up to create the readable spine portion ), a standard CD insert is simply the wrong size and layout to fit. One might be able to take scissors to the original insert to facilitate its inclusion, but it would be an obvious chop job, damaging the printed matter irreparably.

I wish the industry would adopt the new standard for forthcoming CD releases as well, as it certainly is a much better ( and more expensive? ) product.
