Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Chances are.....

That they will all sound different to you. I would
advise against buying any player until you can hear it
in your system. The same thing can be said about the
sound of DACs. I use a MF A3.24 fed from a Denon
DV-2200 player for redbook. By auditioning many
players I have come to the conclusion that I will
have to spend over $1K to better what I have.
Each brand of CD player has their own unique type
of sound and the higher you go in price the harder
it is to discern the differences. But if you don't
mind the return process, go for it and try either
the Cambridge or the Marantz. I was also really interested
in the Cambridge 640 but could not hear it without buying it.
I was curious how the Wolfson dacs would sound in it.
I listened to a Arcam 73 that had the Wolfson dacs.
The high end was more detailed and somewhat brighter
than my MF DAC. But as many have said before I
found the bass response lacking so I did not get it.

Good Luck,

Bill
