Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

I am tired of Windows and Real Player Media players. Can someone recommend a media player for a laptop that doesn't have all the attached videos and pop-ups? Improved sound quality would be good, too. I am using a Monsoon speaker/sub combo. I realize that a search will provide the answer, but I haven't had luck with the right search words.
