I've gone through this process regarding patents, prior art, etc. and actually feel its much simpler than the reference to 3 braided wire.
If you have made that type of cable for the past 20 years you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I don't believe their patent would ever stand up.

The fact that you've used that technique before is a far stronger defense than relying on the position that the process would be obvious to a person knowledgeable in the field although not currently used.

Be careful, Kimber may have patented that process as part of another more valid process that they want to protect; it's done all the time. Or they may want to do it for marketing reasons.

Anybody can file a patent application. usually it takes 12-18 months for the Patent Office to take any action and report on the soundness of your claims. Until then it's just paper.

Bottom line is that Patent litigation is truly the Sport of Kings and I can't imagine that Kimber would ever go to court over this.
