It takes guts to to what you did and I commend you for it. I don't have guts like that. I don't drive BMW's nor taste $50 bottles of wine. One thing you say at the end is very useful and worth repeating: "how can any cable sound so clearly better than what i am hearing?"

Some things are not audible unless you do an A-B, some only while you're doing it. And if the difference is subtle - real but subtle - in a fine cable, you will re-adapt to the "inferior" cable very quickly IF you don't listen to the better stuff too long. If you bought the "superior" cable, you would also adapt to it very soon and stop hearing its superiority. On the other hand, if you kept the Opus in your system for several weeks and then shifted back, you'd be miserable, at least for a while. Good luck!
