for the Cat5 Speaker CableFor once, truth in advertising. What a product. I made only 4' lengths using a 9 braid. The short length has to do with placement and the wife. The light guage has to do with length and the fact that my speakers are reletively effecient and I think I rarely run more than 10 watts into them. Speakers are a multi-driver tower (PSB 6T) and the amp is Musical Fidelity A3CR. I tried the small braid not because I'm lazy or for lack of raw material (I've still got about 1900 lf left to work with. I was given the stuff.) but because I thought with this short length something in the area of 16 ga. would be heavy enough. The cat5 I used as a basis for my cables is General Cable (part no.5131278( plenum type teflon/FEP, 24 ga. conductors.Quite honestly I could go out and buy Kimber 4/8 TC and not really put a hole in my walet but I like to see what I can do on my own. It also gives my tricycle motors (4 of them) something to learn about. Because of my cheapness my only reference so far is 12ga. stranded copper. These cables blew the stranded copper off the map. Now people singing are much closer and clearer. I seam to have picked up some bass controland tember. My wife who has terrific ears and musical sense heard it immediately.
Now, lend my your ears and minds. I tried bi-wiring with a second pair of simple 4x3 (12pair) cable on the lower half of my speakers and the 9 pair on the upper. The wife and I heard a rougher high end. I've read the links on Chris' website about the pros and cons of bi-wiring. Are these the cons that I'm hearing? I ask this because I don't always know what certain terminology means, let alone sounds like. Also, if you live in or around Atlanta, GA and would like to hear a set, email me, I might make a loner pair. dmhancock@earthlink.net
