Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

I couldn't agree more

Cabling, systems, listening preference are all subjective. When/if we read an article in an audio magazine by qualified reveiwers, we know enough about them to know THEIR preferences to know who we trust and who we don't. Is there anyone out there that doesn't have their favorite audio magazine reveiwer? A reveiwer that has qualities that you consider close to yours? I don't know much about the gents that are considering themselves as on line audio revewiers. Do you?

Recently, anyone with time on their hands can be a reveiwer, at least within a internet bulletin board. Maybe they're just trying to pass on what they feel is useful information. When listening biases, complete systems, set ups, hearing ability (both measurable and learned) aren't taken into consideration, everyone loses. What guideline is there for anyones credibility? Throw me in there too. How many times have you questioned qualified magazine reveiwers comments/biases/hearing? At least with them, we know a little about these parameters.

I will also note that I do not use Jena Labs cables, nor am I affiliated with Jena Labs, though I've met Jennifer and Michael at the various CES shows that I've attended since 1989. I find it hard to believe that they would be rude to anyone. If I was decent enough, as Jennifer was, to send my personal set of speaker wires to an on line hobbiest for no money(?), I'd want them back soon, once I'd found out that they weren't being used. (Especially when new speakers are delivered). I use FIM, which I've compared in my OWN system, to work well within my listening tastes/hearing/system strengths. FIM is back ordered because of their sales success. I've heard that they have over 20 people assembling their cable. It would make sense that if sales are good, which Jena Labs are, that they may be a little behind production. (This may account for Jennifer sending her personal cables). The so called on line reporter should feel priviledged to have those cables. Jennifer is too nice, I wouldn't do it. If I were a manufacturer, I'd provide reveiw samples ONLY to those who wrote for real audio magazines.

What has transpired here will do nothing to affect sales for Jena Labs. They are well built, good sounding cables that work with a variety of systems, especially well within single ended driven. They are also popular with those who use OTL amps.

The only logical solution is to use first hand information. That's right, trust your own hearing within your own system.

Just my 2 cents, for what that's worth.
