REVIEW: DIY by Chris VenHaus Cat5 Speaker Cable Cable

I thought I would tell everyone about the CAT 5 wire experiece. When I first made the wire, I did as I was told to the tee (it only took all weekend to make one cable) as I thought. After looking at this huge cable and my sore fingers, I thought to my self what in the world am I thinking. So I had to test the cable before I continued. I connect the cable to my system and listend....and listened. Then I decided to try my old Monster XP cable and listen and I didn't hear a differance. The next day I asked my wife to listen and she couldn't hear a differance either....so I was kinda of bummed out, all that work with no sonic differances. But I had all of this cable I bought off ebay (2000 ft) and I wasn't going to waste it. So then I decided to make the cables again but slightly different because I didn't hear any differance. 3 groups of 4 twisted pairs and braided the wire (took off the outer blue jacket and kept the bundle as is). Connected my connectors. In the mean time I bought new speakers (M&K S-150) because I've been building my theater room. Anyway last night we tested the system with the new speakers and we both agreed that M&K speakers were better sounding than my Klipschs. Out of curiosity, I went back to my old Monster cable for the heck of it. We were surprised to hear a differance!!!! (the second time around). It sounded like there was a piece of cloth over the speaker that was removed. As my wife said, "not as muffled." Speaker wire DOES make a differance!!!! My braiding on these cables were a thousand times better than my first braid. In fact, my first braid looks ugly. So if anyone tries to make these cables, like Chris says, BE CONSISTENT. I don't know why my first cable didn't have the same sonic impact as my next generation (maybe is the AWG of the wire or the bad braiding) cable. Personally, I do prefer the way I braided the wire because it was much quicker and gave a cleaner appearance than my first and there was a sonic differance. I'm very happy with my new speaker cables. Thank's Chris.
