vandie 3a Sig, Audio research d400mkII, ead ovation, elite pd65. using the cat 5 was better than the midnights on this system. i just bought the amp, when i auditioned the amp, the dealer had Levinson transport, DAC, and Preamp with the vandies 3a sig and AR d400mkII. he also was using emerald interconnect whereas i am using some cheapo stuff i made until i get my new ones in. i definitely heard things i didn't on my system than on his, even though he's got that mega priced Levinson gear and emerald interconnects. i have a recording that has several different people singing at once and joining in. his i could only distinguish 5 people. after i made the cat5's i could distinguish 10 different people. the other difference is in the bass, though. his system had an accurate, deep bloomy bass, whereas the cat 5 seems to have an accurate, deep, poignant bass. if i defined that right. i like both bass performance. definitely different bass tonally, but the same in accuracy, depth and stage. plucks of bass are definite plucks in bass.
p.s. i also took another tweak advice, i don't know who listed it, but i used field point arrow heads on my sub. what a difference. tighter and more accurate (i have deep plush carpet) by a wide margin. got some inset wood nut plugs or whatever they are called (had to drill half inch deep and hammer the plugs into the sub bass), then i screwed in the arrow heads. simple 5 minute job, i recommend to anyone with their sub just sitting on the carpet. plus, way cheaper than buying cones or the like (it cost $3.50, i had the drill bit, drill and hammer). i believe Tenderfeet sells a kit that does the same thing for $30.
