That's a lot of shrinkage if so. The insulation for the conductors doesn't appear to be the material that will shrink as the diameter appear to be uniform still at both ends. Unless the whole thing shrunk with heat, AZ does get pretty hot :D.

Little critters maybe that prefer to start gnawing at the cable ends first??
