Romex is not suitable for use as a power cord, it is intended for in-wall wiring purposes and it quite simply sounds like it, too. It might seem intuitive to use the same wire that is used for in-wall AC wiring for use as a detachable or hardwired power cord for an audio component, but an assumption such as that does not apply in this case.
Also, even though the stranded appliance AC wiring would be more flexible and not as poor sounding as a solid core conductor for power cord use, the low strand count stranding could be too coarse to sound good rather than a medium strand count conductor to sound good for an audio application. Coarse stranded THHN wire is one of the worse sounding types of wires for use as AC wiring for an audio component I've ever experimented with.
If Romex and appliance wiring were so good for the purpose, there would be a multitude of reports and DIY recipes posted on the web by now.
