From my perspective there are two questions, the why and the how. The why is that a power cord is an extension of the power supply, not an extension of the power plant miles away, so its affectation is local and tends to be component, application, or system dependent in how it affects the sound of the power supply.
It's easier to understand why a particular design of a power cable can affect a power supply in a repeatable fashion, but how this occurs including the recognizable sonic signatures of specific AC connectors and AC outlets energy transfer function involves a phenomenon that seems to be more profound than one might think there should be.
I've evaluated many AC delivery devices over the years, and have come to accept the matter as something to get antiquated with and enjoy for what it is, and how well it can provide better audio as a matter of subjective and repeatable experiences. The how is less important than what one can actually hear when taking the plunge into audiophile-quality AC delivery.
