Metal platings are not just for anti-oxidation purposes, they also make a big impact on the sound, with different metals sounding distinctly different. The notion that minor oxidation of copper greatly affecting energy transfer for an AC delivery application is unfounded, with a typical bare brass AC outlet or bare brass AC plug showing a great amount of oxidation produced over the years not being an issue to contend with.
