The impedance of a LAN cable's twisted pair is (I'm told) 100R +/- 10%, IOW a good match for USB.
I've DIY'd several USB cables for audio using cable pulled from decent LAN cable (see e.g. Excel or Blue Jeans - no need IMHO for silly-money stuff) and separately screened the D+/D- and Gnd lines (+5 not required in my case) using that self-adhesive copper tape guitar players use configured as a Faraday Cage.
They're a bit fiddly to make and won't win any design awards but they skulk out of sight at the back of the rack and out-perform the few commercial cables I've tried despite the latter selling for prices I'll not admit to in public.
