I constructed the exact same cable. The V twist copper wires are very easy to strip with bic lighter and fingernails. I just wrapped the wire around the u posts, one time around each and soldered. Had the KLE plugged into a female rca jack as a heatsink and had no problem with the plastic melting. The cable itself sounds great.
