I made a pair using the Neotech 3001 cable with Furutech's top XLR connectors and used them for a couple of years. In my system, they sounded good but a little more in the "adds body" camp than in the "detailed and extended" camp. This seems consistent with your findings. Some folks have found these to be very good sounding but I ultimately found that I liked cables I have made with Furutech's u-P2.1-50 IC cable better.
The Furutech cable is a more conventional twisted pair design made with very fine stranded PCOCC wire. I also still use cables made with solid core silver, and some with solid core copper, both in cotton with minimal dielectric - these sound pretty good also and were easy to make. I tend to like the copper better in my system.
