I have Neotechs IC's between my amps and preamp and between the phono and preamp. The IC's I own between the amps and pre are the original NA-012260 (NEI 3001 now) and have been my reference IC cable between the amps and preamp, no matter what equipment has come and gone, these cables have remained. It is the naturalness that appeals to me with these cables. I have not ever noticed the issues you describe, however, I use WBT copper connectors. I had some pretty expensive contendors along with dealers come up to challenge the Neotechs in my system, and all have left carrying their cables back home.
I believe the connectors you are using may be part of the issue, I have never heard any Neotech without WBT's, so I cannot compare, however, all of the Neotech's I have heard with the WBT's sounded great.
The article I linked here in this reply has some history about the Neotechs. A very interesting read and information that led me to purchase the Neotechs's.
