Thats the trick. Trying to find unshielded quad for example, without paying an arm and a leg for "boutique" cable. That's not me saying that the expensive cable doesnt sound good. Just that those on a budget are often left out in the cold and have to do a good deal of extra work ourselves to "test" these wires. Ever cut the jacket and braid off of lengths of Canare quad so you are left with the unshielded quad? FUN!!! Then of course, you have to use something, (shrink or wrap) to retain the geometry, and you arent dealing with boutique wire or jacket material in the first place so it may never get the thumbs up from the masses ... etc, etc. And in the end, you may not find any sonic benefit over just leaving it as stock. Or, you just may.If you are on a budget and enjoy DIY, I say, if it's affordable, try anything. Some things will definitely surprise, others may dissapoint. But ultimately you will draw your own conclusions and find what works for you and does so within your budget.
