Appearance of cables seems to be so important for a lot if not most of the folks here and elsewhere. Obviously that fact is taken advantage of in the manufacture and marketing of cables by all of the manufacturers.
So here is the hypothetical question but it relies on you folks being honest in your responses ...
I'll limit it to power cables just for the sake of simplicity ... Say that there was an IEC to 3 prong cable that cost, say $20, and just looked like a regular, cheapo $6 IEC cable but actually had some tech. to it and sonically bettered the most popular and sexiest looking multi-hundred to multi-thousand dollar cables. Obviously, there are sonic preferences and synergies involved, but IF this hypotehtical cables existed and was easily preferred by most in blind a-b listening tests against the "best" cables ... again, being honest, would you use it? Do you think that others would use it? Basically, how honest do you think that audiophiles in general would be with themselves and each other that this inexpensive, plain jane IEC power cord was sonically superior and would actually use it?
This is an honest question out of my own curiosity, and again, just a hypothetical.
